What a contrast! This walk did not involve a long climb or a mountain top. It was described as ”A collection of small walks at Mt. Field but we may include Junee Cave and Growling Swallet”. I have always been intrigued by the name “Growling Swallet” so, with the additional attraction of it being a Tuesday, I joined the group at 8.45 for our 9.00 departure. My curiosity about the “Growling Swallet” remains as we did not include it. There was a degree of confusion as the start with the advertised leader was in hospital – may he get better soon, We miss you David! However our leader Roger has been leading many of his walks including the Trestle Mountain day. We knew we were in good hands with him and his wife. Further confusion ensued as the the first track we tried (Russell Falls) was closed then the second (along the river) was barricaded off. No to be perturbed we had a morning tea and approached “Lady Baron falls”. I hope she is alright said John. mm…
We arrived through a lovely fern glade. It reminded me of being under the trees on Maatsuyker Island – an experience I will write about here one day. We reached the falls and Lady baron seemed to be OK! We passed moss covered the tree stumps which looked like soft green contemporary sculptures. Moss hung from a branche like a suspended animal and it even coated the fern leaves.
